The Katsina State Government, through the State History and Culture Bureau, says it is fully prepared to host the first-ever state-supported World Hausa Day celebration, scheduled for 26 August 2025 in Daura, with participation from at least 24 countries.

Speaking during a press conference at the Dr. Mamman Shata House Open-Air Theatre, Executive Director of the Bureau, Dr. Kabir Ali Masanawa, said this year’s celebration would receive unprecedented attention and showcase Hausa history, culture, arts, heritage, and cuisine to the world.

“We have made wide preparations. Yesterday, we visited the Emir’s Palace in Daura to seek blessings and reaffirm our historical pride as Hausa people,” Dr. Masanawa stated. “Our cuisine, heritage, and hospitality are second to none. Katsina is safe, and we welcome the world to witness this celebration.”

He disclosed that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, had mandated the bureau to work with the Ranar Hausa global organizing team to ensure a befitting event.

Also speaking, Abdulbaqi Aliyu Jari, an international journalist with TRT based in Istanbul and a lead figure in the Ranar Hausa movement, explained that World Hausa Day was first marked in 2015 to honour Hausa language and culture. The date, August 26, commemorates improvements made to Hausa orthography in the 1920s by German scholar Hans Fischer.

“Hausa is currently the 11th most spoken language globally and is projected to rank fifth by 2050,” Jari noted. “This celebration positions our language and culture alongside the world’s most recognised cultural destinations. This year, the event will be celebrated in 24 countries, including the Netherlands for the first time.”

The grand event in Daura will take place at the Emir’s Palace under the royal patronage of Emir Umar Faruq Umar, CON, who has been a strong supporter of cultural preservation. Organisers say it will feature traditional displays, cultural exhibitions, and a showcase of Hausa hospitality, with live coverage for audiences worldwide.
